“Why can’t you let me go?” Spottedpaw asked me, flicking his tail as I stared into the water. I looked in the water, I didn’t want to look at his shimmering body. “I like it here. Everyone is really nice... When did you cross the line to get here?” I watched him for a moment, finally bringing my eyes up to where the starry figure sat.

“You can’t just leave!” Ivy shouted at me, her teeth grinding in frustration. “They need you... I need you.” I rolled my eyes at the cliche phrase. I knew for a fact that they only needed me because I was a mere number in their precious army.
I flipped back around to glare at the she-cat, “If I wanted to stay for you I would, but frankly Ivy this whole place is really starting to get on my nerves.” I admit to her, turning back around and stalking towards the Starclan border.
“But what about all of us? Aren’t we all like family?” I could hear that desperation, she wanted so badly for me to stay that she would try to admit something that I know wasn’t true to her either.
Instead barking at her, Ivy had always been the kindest to me, I spoke back at her. “The Dark forest... They aren’t any family of mine.” then my paw crossed the Starclan border.

“Not too long ago... I thought since I couldn’t see you in the Dark Forest that I would come here instead.” I smile and ruffle the top of his head. He laughs and tries to push me away.
“Stop it!” He cries, fits of innocent giggles and laughter erupt from him again. I smile at the old apprentice, he did seem happy here like he had been back in Lakeclan. Why was it so hard to let him go? I loved this kit with all my heart, like a son, but I just couldn’t let him go and ask him to wait for me when I die.
Just as Spottedpaw raised his paw to thwap me on the nose a warrior called. He was tall, muscular, he resembled my mother in many ways. Spottedpaw rose to his feet and grinned, “Hi! Oh, Blackheart this is Steelclaw. He’s Ironstar’s father.” Spottedpaw explained. For some reason I had felt I knew that already.
The warrior took a seat next to us, taking up half the rock behind me. “So you’re that grandson of mine that’s been causing all this trouble,” Steelclaw mused, resting on his legs. “I expected you to be about the size of your mother... Where does your height come from?”
I didn’t want to admit it... That my height was the very reason that I didn’t doubt that Bloodshadow was my father. I sighed, “It’s on my father’s side... And now apparently on my mothers as well.”
This got a chuckle to erupt from the tom as well. “Really? I have a hard time believing that Ironstar would be able to settle down with anyone at all. She resembles me a little too much, in more ways than one really. It’s too bad that she didn’t get much of that feminine charm that her mother had.”
I wanted to laugh at him, surely he was joking. My mother wasn’t anything like a tom, in any sort of way. She giggled, freaked out the most randomest thing... Had us. It wasn’t like there was any doubt anymore. “Truth be told she was quite the little tomcat, stuck to my side most of the time and rough housed with her brother several times a week. This change was good for her... Though I guess we have Bloodshadow to thank for that.”
At the mention of his name I groaned. My grandfather gave me a skeptical look. Of all the cats we could talk about Bloodshadow was not on my list. In fact, his name was still in Midnightclan where he belongs. A tail rests on my shoulder, both shoulder’s actually. I stare up at the tom then notice Spottedpaw doing the same on my other side. “Don’t sell him short Blackheart, he really does care about you,” a sly grin came over his face, “He didn’t know you were his son till your mother came moments later and told you. He was excited to have met you, and couldn’t wait to meet you again... Give him props your parents planned on it being a surprise so that you wouldn’t be curious any longer.”
With that said I looked to the ground. I stared at my reflection, it switched over to Bloodshadow’s face. I allowed a small smirk to cross over my face. Maybe... Maybe I could actually try for once to get to know him.

I picked at the mouse, small bones going over into a small pile next to me. Bloodshadow was off on patrol, Blazingheart was across from me eating a rabbit with my mother. Shadowfall was out with Swiftriver on hunting patrol. Wavestrike.... He was asleep in the warriors den. I hadn’t spoke with him in a while, not since the trial.
I kept my eyes on the mouse before me, the other two making small talk like normal siblings did. Burningash joined me on my right moments later, letting me know the patrol was back. I felt my mouth go dry when he said this, my body tensing as Bloodshadow walked over and grabbed a fish from the pile.
He took a seat on the other side of my mother, lickingher cheek and causing my mother to do the same back. I swallowed what little of mouse I had in my mouth before talking, “Whatever you do don’t call me sonny.” I announced, all current conversations stopping. Several head swiveled to stare at me, I kept looking down. “Sonny, that’s not my name, so call me Blackheart.” Finally I lifted my gaze to stare at Bloodshadow, his eyes slightly widened.
Slowly I could see this smile spread across my mothers face as she continued eating. “Well it was never my intention to call you sonny in the first place.” He joked, both of our prey forgotten. “But if it’s any consolation I won’t force you to call me papa.” I crinkled my nose and snarked a reply.
“Papa? Please, you’re more of a daddy, than papa.” I mused, a grin coming over my face. He laughed at me, and I couldn’t help the chuckle that erupted from me as well.
We talked like this, varying each topic from who I was interested in, what my training was like, who I looked up to. To be honest I hadn’t expected talking  with him to be this easy. Earlier on I thought that I would never be able to talk to him normally like I could to my mother, or Wavestrike. It was part way through the day when Swiftriver and Shadowfall returned. “What the heck are you on, Blackheart?” Shadowfall said her jaw dropping a bit.
All three of us stared at her then began laughing. All of us did, I don’t think I could have asked for a better day. For once I didn’t feel like my heart was full of ice, that my veins were frozen over to the point of breaking...  I was just

Happy
